 This
body of work by Patricia Underwood is comprised of a series of
multimedia paintings on hand-made, pulp-painted paper, incorporating
beadwork, pictographs and three-dimensional materials. Inspired
by Native American culture, the concept of this body of work is
protection and healing. Each "shield" carries with
it symbols of a specific painful social issue, such as domestic
violence, homophobia or racism, and acts as a protective device
to create the intent of healing.
